STYLE A-JANE: THE SHAPESHIFTER

For a playful yet sophisticated look, don’t look pass pleated details. By Mughni Che Din

Pleats are once again making its way back into the fashion spotlight, bringing texture, movement and structure to this season’s most coveted looks. On the runway, the trend is appearing in a powerful range of options: From tops, skirts, dresses and high waist trousers — pleats are making their way everywhere, and we can’t stop obsessing about it.

On the streets, our favourite style starlets proved that pleats are not just for warm summer weather. Take sartorial cues from Madelynn Furlong and team checkered knife pleated skirt, rust-hued tweed jacket and ‘70s patent Go-go boots or the monochromatic approach as illustrated by Victoria Barbara in voluminous Dynasty inspired puffy sleeved dress, pouch bag and sculptural boots for a sophisticated take on the trend for winter.

In fashion, the devil in in the details and by far the simplest way to add drama to your outfit is by throwing pleats to it. Just follow this simple rule, “Tuck, pleat and repeat!” The best part of it, you can feel feminine, delicate, edgy, and glamorous— all at the same time.
