Roll out the red-carpet because the award season is officially here— well, sort of. It’s been a trying year for the entertainment industry as the world continues to endure the repercussions of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. With all the restrictions that are still set in place, event organizers are pulling all the creative stops to ensure that the audience do not miss out on any of the action and yet still implementing extensive protocol to instill a sense of normalcy whilst ensuring public safety.

At the recent Golden Globes, which is usually one of Hollywood’s most highly anticipated red carpet events was definitely deprived of some of its glamour as the celebrities mainly watched the event unfold from their home or hotel rooms. And just ICYMI, the 93rd Academy Awards (aka The Oscars) have recently announced that the event will be reinvented into a movie for the pandemic era. With virtual galas vast becoming the new norm, it shouldn’t stop us from swooning over our favourite red carpet style mavens— after all the show must go on!

DID YOU KNOW?

Prior to the ‘90s, celebrities dressed themselves for red carpet gala events such as the Academy Awards or the Golden Globes. It was not until the mid ‘90s when they introduced live pre-show commentary – cue Joan Rivers and Melissa Rivers— that stars taking the red carpet seriously and hired celebrity stylists to ensure that they sparkle and shine for the event.

A STAR IS BORN

As red carpet events continues to attract media attention, it is only natural that fashion designers to want to dress their favourite celebrities in one of their designs. According to media sources, having a celebrity featured in one of their designs at an award ceremony is worth five-fold of a Vogue magazine cover— which can only mean, more publicity for the fashion designer and the brand.
