The expression, “what goes around comes around” is no longer limited to describe karma, it is also the perfect way to describe the cycle of fashion. Trends or styles that are considered contemporary and chic will eventually become old and dated, only to make a comeback a few decades later.
Fast-forward to today, the ‘90s trends is now back dominating the fashion scene and one of the hottest fashion items from that era, the crop top, is the must-have item this season. Made popular by pop star Britney Spears (think Hit Me Baby One More Time), these midriff-baring style has come a long way since the ‘90s. And with everything from the roaring Nineties, they've made a grown-up comeback making it easier to embrace this tricky style statement.
To make this trend work in 2021, It’s important to consider what you are paring the crop top with. You can team it with low-rise pants for a sexier look, or with high-waisted shorts, skirts or pants for a more balanced, modest look. Remember the golden fashion rule: the shorter the top, the longer the bottoms should be in order not to look overexposed.
Crop tops also looks ultra-chic when paired with a cool outerwear (think blazers, bomber jackets or trench coats). They also come in handy in case the weather gets a little bit “nippy”.
