PRETTY BOWS

Get all tied up in this season’s prettiest decorative trend. By Mughni Che Din

We have been keeping track on emerging trends from the recent Autumn/Winter ’21 presentation in New York, London, Milan and Paris— and while each city puts their own flavour on what we are expecting to be wearing for the upcoming season, sometimes we see designers across all four major fashion capitals come to a consensus on a particular trend. This season, it was bows.

Bows have been a prominent element of feminine style for centuries. The bow detail dates back to the 15th century and it was adorned as trimmings on extravagant dresses worn by high society women. Since then, the bow or the ribbon continues to evolve over time through various interpretations by couturiers and designers alike.

Fast forward to today, bows makes a triumphant return this season. From dainty and feminine bows to voluminous larger-than life bows. Spotted on gowns, dresses, tailored suit jackets, footwear and luxury leathergoods at Oscar de la Renta, Staud, Prabal Gurung in New York; Maison Valentino in Milan; and Giambattista Valli and Paco Rabanne in Paris—it’s literally smattered everywhere!
