Here we are, in 2021, and the “ugly” shoe trend is still and kicking and has given us the “dad shoes” (Balenciaga Triple S sneakers) and the Crocs—elevating themselves from fashion faux pas to a sartorial essentials. This season, it’s all about the chunky, podiatrist-approved slides (think Birkenstock slip-ons). 

If there’s anything the pandemic has taught us (apart from living in our comfiest #WFH attire), it’s that comfort and versatility are the new non-negotiables when it comes to style. No longer just limited to rubbery and sporty designs, the new era of slides are reimagined in luxe materials like buttery-soft leathers or soft silks and adorned with everything from feathers, punchy prints and cool embellishments.

How to style it?

Good news as slides are not only super comfortable, but they will also look great with virtually anything! Although, to avoid looking like an Eighties swimming coach, pair your slides with everything from ultra-feminine floaty dresses or mannish Annie Hall inspired tailored pieces. If you are looking to put an irreverent take to this trend, consider pairing your sandals with a pair of socks for a dose of cool.
